pessimist. No sort of affirmation at all??

Well, it does affirm that at least as of yesterday, they didn't
lose my order, but a slip of this length seems to imply that
they don't have sets ready to ship.

Since all of the coins were minted and packaged before they went
on sale, that means at best, I'm on a wait list for "bounced"
sets. I don't expect that to be a very large quantity.

Chin up. Jud's rejection email received on the same day others received a
"backorder" (-) email gives reason to hold out hope. Already packaged or
not, they're apparently not sending them all out at once and reportedly are
holding some sets for the 28th. Nothing to lose by waiting, IMO, especially
since I delayed in placing an order in the first place.

It gets curiouser..... today's email from the Mint adjusts the 28 Nov
backorder AE set shipping date to 12 Dec. Rather than simply telling me my
order was placed too late, like they did with others, the Mint apparently
has decided to play along with me for a while before dropping the bomb.
What a nice Christmas present it would be though.

As did I. While I don't deny being at least a part-time pessimist,
when dealing with the Mint it often seems justified.

Surprise! I just received a shipment notification from the Mint.
It's one of those times when I'm delighted to admit I was wrong.

I received an email from the Mint tonight informing me that my 5-coin
25th anniversary set has been shipped! I do feel a bit guilty, having
placed an online order two days after the "sellout", but I believe the guilt
feelings will pass. Especially after I turn it into a profit on eBay.
Greed is good I'm told.

No. Greed is not good. You must attone for your digression of decency
toward your fellow man. To do so, you must first send your 25th
anniversary set to me, then build a bonfire in a distant place, dance
around the fire for 30 minutes always facing the east, and chant, "I
was wrong in my digression. Forgive me." You must repeat said chant
for the entire 30 minutes. Only afterwards will you be forgiven.

Jerry
That's a joke. Congrats, Bruce. I lost out completely.

-----------------

I guess some higher being must have wanted me to have this particular
set, and forgave my procrastination. My feeling of guilt comes after
hearing so many horror stories about collectors spending a good part of
their day just trying to link up with the Mint in order to buy a single set,
and being left out.

As I see it, the Mint must have no one with full mental capacity in
charge of determining the number of sets to produce. Anyone with a copy of
the weekly coin pubs could note that 850,000 proof 2011 silver eagles
reportedly have been sold so far, along with some more hundreds of thousands
of 2011 Unc and bullion examples. That alone should give them a rough idea
of the market demand for these things. Then to settle on a 100,000 limit
must mean Mint officials secretly enjoy sitting back and watching the
inevitable numismatic fireworks. Imagine if their phones and servers had
been up to speed. The sellout might have happened in a half hour.

The chant is actually "Owa tagu siam" to be repeated while watching a weekend
marathon of "The Odd Couple".

.

SIGH I placed my order late at night the first day it was offered,
got the 'waiting list' email, and finally the 'you are outta luck'
email, and yet you get yours that was ordered 2 days later? Either you
have the luck of the Irish, or there is a black cloud following me.
