Cracked Proof Case

The mint messed up my subscription info, and I realized recently that I
never received my 2004 proof set. I ordered one, and the coins look great,
unfortunately it showed up with a cracked case. Anyone out there have
experience returning product to the mint for replacement? Several
questions:
1. Does the mint take responsibility for something that very likely
occurred in shipping?
2. What are the odds that if I return this set, I won't get another due to
availability?
Given that a proof set is pretty inexpensive, I'm inclined to avoid the
hassle and simply order another one.
