Reka-Devnia Hoard Roman Denarii
I was just pouring over an old auction catalogue and noticed that the bulk
of Domitian denarii including those from the Reka-Devnia hoard all sold well below estimate. Some of them sold for less than half the estimate. They are all attractive and graded appropriately. Does anyone know the reason why this is the case? From looking around online I can see that there are numerous (to say the least) Domitian denarii available. It is definately a buyers market. Is this the reason for the poor performance? I am going to put a offer in on a couple of the coins. They can only say no and I might save a bit of money and get my 12 Caesars collection off the ground. Mame |

Denarii of Domitian are not particularly difficult to come by. The auctioneer may simply have been mistaken in those particular estimates. Eric |
