Fixing Player, please help
"agent_scifi" wrote in message ... I recently bought a '67 ford mustang w/ an AM radio and 8-track player. Unfortunately, when I place in any of my tapes, all I get is a metallic buzzing sound. I tried cleaning the player with distilled de-ionized alcohol and q-tips, but that didn't work either. If any of you can help me, please reply. Thanks, Check your belt on the player. Look for the switch that turns the player on and off, inside the slot where the tape goes. Press the switch with a pencil, if the capstan (the metal rod that turns the tape roller) isn't spinning, then your belt is gone, and you'll only get a buzz sound. 90 % of belts from that era turn to goo, literally. If it's not the belt, Dan Jobin will answer this thread for advice. winnard |

If the capstan isn't turning, pull the player from the dash and remove the bottom cover. Here you will see the motor, belt and flywheel. It will be real obvious if the belt is toasted. Changing the belt is real easy. If it isn't the belt, send it in and I'll fix it up for you. Dan 2 To original poster, DO NOT throw that deck in the trash! It's worth some $$ in your car, especially if it's original equipment. And Dan Jobin can fix it right. winnard |
