how to use ink refill?
Trying to learn how to use a fountain pen. Got one from eBay. The vendor sent 5 refills, but there wasn't one in the pen itself. There's a little plunger thing in the pen, in a little cylinder. I'd buy one from someone in Real Life (tm) but haven't seen anything remotely affordable. Any advice appreciated. |

Congratulations on acquiring a fountain pen! Is it new? Why weren't there any instructions? It would be best for you to tell us what kind of pen you got. Otherwise, we're working about as blindly as you are because there are a LOT of fountain pens that work differently from each other. Lacking that critical info, here is my opinion: The plunger thing in the cylinder sounds like you have a pen with a converter. If so, it is an option so the pen may use bottled ink (less expensive) in addition to cartridges. Is the cylinder clear? Does the plunger move up and down within the cylinder by your twisting the end? Can you remove the cylinder from the pen EASILY? Some converters need to be unscrewed while others may be pulled straight out with a slight twist to help loosen. REMEMBER, I don't know what kind of pen you have, so if you try anything I suggest, do so VERY GENTLY. If you're able to remove what I think is the converter, set it aside, and insert one of the cartridges narrow end into the section with the nib. Do it firmly so that the nipple punctures the end of the cartridge which will allow the ink to flow to the nib. Replace the barrel, and holding the pen with the nib down, the pen should be ready to write within a minute. Good luck! -- ~~Bluesea~~ Spam is great in musubi, but not in email. Provide the make/model info and, if possible, links to pictures (or link to the eBay item listing) ; then, low-risk, specific advice can be given. Thanks, I'll try to do that. Not a big risk in any case, this wasn't a high-end item. |
