Default John F. Kennedy 35th President Medal

I found this medal while going through my passed on mother's things
and I am not sure if this medal was made while John F. Kennedy still
was president or, more likely, made for his inaugural celebration. It
appears to be a copper coin or medal encased in a clear plastic
display type case used for coins. Front shows JFK and the words 35th
President U.S.A;1961;John F. Kennedy. Back has JFK; Harvard Graduate;
Navy 1941-1945; Congress 1947-1953; Inuaugural Jan. 20th 1961. The
fact it doesn't have date of his death and the front carries only the
date 1961 shows this is not a memorial item, but a contemporary item.
I've tried searching for information on this on google but all I could
find out is this isn't the inaugural medal sold in most coin shops.
Any help would be appreciated.

I was able to scan the front and back of it so hopefully it would help
aid in determining what this medal is... you can check it out at

I really can't help, but I do know that many Kennedy medals have been
produced by private mints for public sale. I searched eBay's current and
closed auctions and did not find any just like yours, but I found a variety
of Kennedy medals. Many did not receive a bid, with some minimums at 99
cents, $2, etc. My search in exonumia -- medals gave me this list of
ongoing auctions;
