Is this caused by dipping?
The lister calls it "porous." Is it dipping that caused all those pock
marks? Or could it be corrossion caused by a PVC holder? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=3901653211 Scot Kamins --- ***Collecting Euro's (for no apparent reason)*** |

A coin like this was probably buried for a while. Barry -- Note - Remove the X from my e-mail address for direct replies |

So just being in the ground causes it to become porous? Oh, you bet! Contact with the "salts of the earth" promote gentle (or not-so-gentle) corrosion. Hit the right combo of moisture, acidity and time, and porosity results. ....and dipping sure won't fix that! Jeff |

"Porous" is a nice way of saying "pitted by corrosion just like "toned"
sounds better that "tarnished". Billy Scot Kamins wrote: In article , Barry wrote: Dipping doesn't cause porosity, but may make it more obvious by removing the toning.
