First time...
Hey all! I have been collecting coins now for about 6 months and
really enjoy what I am doing. This group has taught me so much and I look forward to reading all your posts almost everyday. I have been buying $25 boxes of pennies from the bank here in Minnesota and have had fun finding the coins I need for my folders. This last box was somewhat disappointing because I usually find a few wheats (10 to 15 per box) but only found 5 and of course ones that I already had. However, in the second to last roll I found a 1902 indian head. Needless to say my heart was racing and even though it was well worn and used (and not worth that much), it rejuvenated my excitement for roll searching. I was wondering how common it is to still find indian heads in circulation anymore? Has anyone had finds like this recently in any type of denomination? -Troy |

I'm sorry, but... What's "to find a wheat?" My english dictionary do not returns any numismatic meaning for wheat! :-)) I kow, I know, I should attend my english classes instead of playing with friends! Fernando |

Hey Fernando, your english seems just fine!
I think the "Wheat" he is referring to, is a type of American penny... an older design that had 2 stalks of wheat in the reverse. I started searching pocket change in 1954 and have yet to find my first
Indian cent. In the late 50s and early 60s I searched a couple $50 bags a week, but no Indians. I spent one at a Hardee's a couple years ago, just to give somebody a thrill. "James Higby" happily confessed: I started searching pocket change in 1954 and have yet to find my first Indian cent. In the late 50s and early 60s I searched a couple $50 bags a week, but no Indians. I spent one at a Hardee's a couple years ago, just to give somebody a thrill. What a great idea, James! I have a few old slick Buffs here that I think I'll ease back into circulation within the next few weeks. Finding one in pocket change, even in such poor condition, may be the discovery that makes someone's heart leap with happiness! Larry 'looking for a few sleazy coins at this moment' |

Hey, Larry, there's an article on Barber halves in this week's Num News.
Didja see it? "Larry Louks" wrote in message ... "James Higby" happily confessed: I started searching pocket change in 1954 and have yet to find my first Indian cent. "James Higby" queried: Hey, Larry, there's an article on Barber halves in this week's Num News. Didja see it? No sir, I didn't. Is that a paper magazine, or something online? Thanks! Larry 'apparently missing something good' |

"Jim Wild" opined: I assume Larry is looking for bust dollars. No, I'm scaling back from that, Jim. Finding one of those ol' beauties in one's pocket change might generate a cardiac arrest! Larry 'about to quietly distribute a few cheap ones' |

"Wheats" are Lincoln cents issued from 1909-1958. The reverse of the coin depicts 2 wheat stalks. In 1959 they changed the reverse of the Lincoln cent to show the Lincoln Memorial. The earlier ones are known as wheats, the later ones are known as memorials. Tiene otro preguntas? |
