Scott Catalog Help please
While working some Tonga stamps I ran into a problem. I have a 1"1d
1962 round airmail stamp. My 2003 Scott catalog mentions this denomination in the heading of the first Airmail issue, 1963, July 15 but does not give it a number nor is there any missing numbers in the listing. Anyone have a clue? For my own benefit I can list it as C2.5, or C2*. As far as I know the nasty dictators at Scott aren't going to admit they made a mistake, therefore no change is coming. "nasty dictators at Scott"? Tell us more.
Your stamp is C3. There is no 1/6 value. Based on some old catalogs I have, it appears that the error was introduced sometime between 1983 and 1995. Jay Carrigan change domain to mchsi www.jaypex.com In article .com, says... While working some Tonga stamps I ran into a problem. I have a 1"1d 1962 round airmail stamp. Well, they most certainly have made a LOT of mistakes in the 2002 catalogs. Leaving pieces out, shifting pieces around, watermarks, you name it. Working on Southern Rhodesia right now and the "Victoria Falls" stamp sticks out as a problem. The first issue is printed without "Postage & Revenue" and the 2nd issue is supposed to have it. Well, both pictures look the same. Laziness, didn't have a copy of the 2nd issue, or an error, plain and simple. Now, if this was the only error in the entire catalog, I could live with it. Maybe even 1, 2, 3 per volume. But it sure seems when the moved over to newer pictures / overprints / watermarks / etc. they made some serious faux pas and may have rushed things to print without editing the content a little. .... or a lot. I'll be getting some newer catalogs in the near future - maybe 2004's, because of my work with a stamp dealer. I sure hope these are up to snuff. Ralph, put the bullies on the side and look at the errors! Then come back to the bully part and say "What nerve they have limiting the amount of mis-information we can pass out!" :^P Nuff Said... ======================= Tracy Barber ----------------------- adirondack-pc ----------------------- "Freebie Stamp Project" ======================= |

snip, serious snip....
The OLD one suffering from a bad case of CRS put his mouth in gear before enggaging brain. Looking in my album proved the "booklet panes" I refered to are not booklet panes at all, just strips of twelve from a sheet of stamps. It is a mystery why the seller offered thirteen single stamps and identical thirteen strips of twelve for sale. Only a part of the series and not in sequence either. Ignorance and low price convinced me to buy these. Ralphael, the OLD one |
