Default Waterman Elite 2 vs Phileas?

Hello,

I was wondering how the Elite 2 compares to the Phileas in
terms of nib quality, smoothness, construction? (I have a Phileas
so I am familiar with that pen.)

Correction, I meant Expert 2 not Elite 2

The Expert II is a much better pen in terms of construction quality.
The barrel is brass with a laquer coating, so it is heavier and stronger
than a Phileas. The nib is excellent. I have both a fine and a
medium---both write like dreams. Both pens are good value. The Expert
II costs more and you get more.

Thanks for the response. The pen sounds like it's worth a test drive.
I happened to see the pen on display and was curious as to why it
was so much more expensive than a phileas. ($160 canadian at local
office supply store)

I pretty much agree with RSP3 except I'd rate them both about equal in
terms of construction quality. My only squawk about the Phileas is that
from a dry condition it seems to take forever to get going, compared to
the Expert. I slightly prefer the Expert section to the one on the
Phileas but that's just a personal matter. Note that the clip is made
of cheap pot metal so if you accidentally bend it it'll be a crap shoot
whether you get it back straight again w/o breaking it off. On the
Phileas and Expert pens I've owned I've found that the latter pens
require a bit more push when writing, and I like that -- mirror-smooth
nibs really bug me, too much of a good thing and all....... I don't
know if the final prep on the nibs of these pens is done by man or
machine, so there may be a sample-size consideration in there depending
on the answer.

I'd rate both pens very highly, to sum it up.

BTW, sometimes Joon has the oddball colors on sale, so check them out
before you buy locally.
