Default Slow start up 8 track player

I have a 8 track player that is slow to start. I have to jiggle the
cart to get it to start, and once it starts playing it's fine. I can
play cart after cart with no problem...untill I let it sit a day or
so, then it's back to the jiggle process.
I've checked the big wheel that the one end of the belt is around and
when it is apart I can jump start it by pushing the wheel slightly and
it starts playing. I can't do that once I put the unit back together,
I have to then go back the jiggling the cart to get it to start.
Anyone have any suggestions on this one?
Thanks
