Vintage Shute Board & Type-High Plane, Compl, c.1890s

This Vintage 1890s Hoerner Combination Shute-Board and Type-High Machine
Plane is all complete with original instructions sheet and is in excellent
condition.
This machine is designed for interchangeable planes, on carrying a knife
blade and the other a file. They operate on the carriage or guide frame. The
carriage can be moved from side to side of the bed while operating, thus
permitting a block the full width of the machine to be shaved at one
locking. It will hold a block up to ten inches in width and any length. The
block is held down to the bed by a vise-like lock, fastened or released with
the turn of a small lever. The sliding cross bar with mitre point can also
be used to set any angle of mitering. The bed can also be firmly fastened to
a table or bench leaving both hands for free operation.

This Shute-Board is made of all steel and iron with the exception of the
wood plane handles. The plane consists of an iron bed, iron carriage, miter
guide, and iron knife blade. The iron bed measures 12 ½ inches x 14 inches.
It has decorative edges with gold paint edging. The front edge has a brass
label that says, (Manfd by The Challenge Machinery Co., Grand Haven, Mich.,
and Chicago, Ill., U.S.A.). The bottom side of the bed is marked, (Hoerner
Type High Machine, Patd. Jan 94, Dec 95---1894/95). It also says (Manfd By
The Challenge Mchy Co., Chicago, Ill.). The iron carriage has a gold
decorative floral design on each side. The sliding miter guide is marked
(Patented, Jan 94, Dec 95). The iron knife blade is an iron square shaped
structure that fits in the carriage. It has a wood handle and wood round
knob. There is a small chip out of the wood handle and a small chip out of
the iron square structure where it looks like it had been dropped at one
time, but it does not detract from the appearance or function of the machine
(see pictures). With these exceptions, this is in excellent fully working
condition. There is no other damage and no rust at all. I have taken several
pictures to show the details. Also, included is the original directions
sheet and instruction sheet.
