Default Help needed with info and conservation suggestions for a 68 year old US Medal/Token! Ken?

This is an interesting US Medal/Token that seems to have been manufactured
in 1936.
It was a gift from a friend and I took an instant like to this ugly baby
in spite of my usually not having an interest in US material like this.
It appeals to me for some indefinable reason. It is ugly!

However it was stored improperly for many years (I was told about that
when I asked where it had been) and I made
a gargantuan effort and made no comment to my friend about that. ;-)
Also I wouldn't be surprised if it had been in a fire at some point in it's
history.

It is dated 1886-1936 and I have no reason to believe otherwise.
It is made of Brass/Bronze and is fairly large at app. 33mm ( a little
larger than a US
Half-Dollar of 30.6mm).
I soaked it in Acetone for 24 hours and it was much improved! After another
12
hours I note no change.

So anyone know any little tidbit of info about it? Other than the obvious
that can be deduced from the inscriptions?Have any suggestions as to how I
can
perform some subtle surgery to help it's psychological angst about it's
looks?
Have any comments about the state of technology at that time concerning the
subject matter?

Anyone else have an ugly duckling in their collection that they like for no
apparent reason?

Granted that I spend many hours a week staring at Cents from
Circulation...but...what's wrong with the way it looks? ;-)

In marketing it's called a 'Competitive Advantage' rather than a
'Competitive Edge'. Most products today can only hope for a
'Competitive Edge', as in Whirlpool vs. Maytag, or Pepsi vs. Coke. But
at some points in the past, like 1935, a product could have a
Competitive Advantage as in Whirlpool vs. Ice delivered by Horse Cart,
or Pepsi vs. Drinking from a Ditch. ;-)

Anyone else have an ugly duckling in their collection that they like for no
apparent reason?

I take it you have forgotten my Brillantly Brilloed Hard Times Token!

Other than the color? and the streak of rust at the top right on the
obverse?
and the crud that still fills and obscures some of the detail?
Other than that nothing is wrong with the way it looks :-)

HA! I wouldn't know as I never drank Coke from a ditch. As far as I know
the ditch
may be better ;-)

You can get a 50mb one at Yahoo for a little less than 13 US a month
after the one time 25 dollars set up fee for the name. I sincerely urge you
to
consider that option as it is really great fun to create your own universe
to suit yourself!
You can be the sole arbitrator of your own world! I wouldn't trade the
learning experiece
for a $20 Gold or a 1913 Nickel. ;-)

I never entirely lie much ;-)

Sometimes, it's neat to have all kinds of numismatic items lying within
arm's reach. I saw your image, Dale, and thought 'Hmmm, I think I have
something like that here close.' I move five raffle tickets I purchased
from my daughter, a couple of sticky notes, a quarter wrapper (minus the
quarters), some unused credit card checks, still in the mailing envelope, an
attorney's business card, a 3.5" disc, and uncover an assortment of coins
and tokens. Let's see, that one says VICTORY LIBERTY LOANS, this one says
DEATH JUDGEMENT HEAVEN HELL, and this one says THE POWER OF LEADERSHIP IS
YOURS WITH CHRYSLER. And lo, here it is (unfortunately, my Sony Mavica is
again broke and no longer does macro, so you have to take my word for it,
it's the same token);

http://showcase.netins.net/web/bills...stinghouse.JPG

But, beyond that, I can't tell you a thing about it, other than guessing it
was an item from Westinghouse's 50th anniversary. I got mine in a lot of
tokens purchased on eBay for under a buck each, so I can also guess it is
not a terribly valuable token. Dale, if you want mine as a companion to
yours, all I need is a mailing address. Bill

I have a lot of junk on my desk too :-))))ROTFLOL
A block of wood that I wanted to make a stand for a medal but the design
failed!
a zip disk or three, a key to a treadmill (that is a piece of equipment from
hell!)
A cm ruler, a old redbook that I never look at. A plastic blue pig bank for
copper cents,
(empty) an ash tray and I don't smoke. A stapler and an artist brush, a
remote that goes to
God knows what and 400 pens that only half of them work. Oh and a 2X
doubler for a microscope

Let's see, that one says VICTORY LIBERTY LOANS, this one says

I have one similar !!!!

DEATH JUDGEMENT HEAVEN HELL, and this one says THE POWER OF LEADERSHIP IS

Never heard of those.

I never suspected that it was rare or valuable :-))))))

Well I thank you for the offer but am not sure that is necessary :-)
Anyway if you place little value on it I would find a use for it.
But I have to warn you I trade a lot of stuff at times and it likely would
get traded.
So maybe you might keep it under those circumstances and trade it for
something you want?

Probably not worth "curating" ... it's a fairly common advertising
medal presumably distributed by Westinghouse to promote their brand
on their 50th anniversary. Dunno if you had to go to a store and
"test drive" the icebox to get one, if they were mailed out, offered
as a "bring in this ad for a SOOPER DOOPER PRIZE!" or whatnot ...

FWIW, here's a nicer example I offered on eBaY in March:

http://members.sparedollar.com/kenba...inghse1936.jpg

I believe it received no bids at the $5.00 minimum ...

Ah well! An interesting piece of Americana anyway!
Even though I wasn't born until l1955, I remember seeing
ref similar to that image.

Door to the top and compressor at the bottom.

Dale
it was sitting next to anice box with a place for a block of ice to make it
work :-)

Neither one is as interesting to me as a Fresca!
No Carbs, no Vitamins, No Protien, no Calories,
no Caffine, just good ole American Chemical by-products! ;-)

Did you borrow Ira's time maching in reverse? What is it like 10,000 years from now? Are
people still doing the same stupid things that we are in this time frame? :)
