Apparently the overprint has been forged on the later George V issue
on multiple star watermarked paper. Is this one on single star
watermarked paper?

Single wmk Tony,
we shall put it down to once only freak flaw.

May I ask what ref you employed that
suggested the mult star has been forged?
Must be a very comprehensive catalogue.
Thanks
Rodney

The invaluable Robson Lowe catalogue. Let me know if you need copies/
scans of any bits of it - happy to oblige.

Yes, yours was probably a stray bit of dirt. I recently had a similar
experience with a Bhopal SG O340 (8 anna palaces), which certainly
seemed to me to have an inverted A for the V in the SERVICE
overprint. Alas, the BPA expert committee thought otherwise. Still,
it looks good.
