Default The Hobby

Maybe this will help get some on topic conversation going. For the
legitimate autograph lurkers, please feel free to join in.

1) What was the first autograph that attracted you to the hobby?
2) How many items are in your collection?
3) What would you say is your prized autographed item(s)?
4) Who is someone living, that has so far eluded you, that would like
to add to your collection?
5) Among celebrities or people of fame that have passed, who do you
regret not adding to your collection?
6) What historical signature would you like in your collection?

For me:

1) I always thought that my first IP autograph was Nichelle Nichols in
1985. Turns out that my parents took me to an event where two Derrick
Dolls cheerleaders from the Houston Oilers signed for me when I was
around 10 years old.

2) Last count was 648 items a couple of years ago. I was estimate
close to 780-800 items.

3) Over the years, I've been a convention staff member. I have been
able to get all of the original Star Trek cast members to sign an
index card. Those cards now professionally matted around a cast
photo. That, and a matted card/picture of Gene Roddenberry are my two
favorites.

4) Scott Backula.

5) Bob Hope and Walt Disney

6) Abraham Lincoln.

Any of my Walt Disney's because they all have a story and my Alice Cooper

4) Who is someone living, that has so far eluded you, that would like to
add to your collection?

Ron Miller of Disney fame (Ron , if your out there, toss me a bone!!!)

5) Among celebrities or people of fame that have passed, who do you regret
not adding to your collection?

Gus Grissom, he has always been my favourite astronaut

Very nice. I only have a few Disney related autographs myself. Sammy
is an autograph I regret missing too. I wasn't really focused on
anything non-Star Trek at the time. I do have Jerry Lewis though, so
I do have a part of that era. :-)

1) rollie fingers was basically the first autograph i remember (i have
my picture with elvis, as i've reported before, but i was a baby and
obviouosly don't remember that...) the first autograph i got that
attracted me to the hobby full time was michael jordan. he was so nice
at the time.

2) i can honestly boast over 5000 autographs...seriously...some
multiples...but since i collect just about everything, i have a lot..

3) pool ball signed by paul newman or my big lebowski cast signed
poster (although, last night, getting liv tyler, i have over 55
autographs on my 2 towers poster, so that may be it now)

4) not really anyone..i've gotten most people..i would like to get
dean jones, he's eluded me for a while. but once i get him, i'm sure
someone else will pop up (that's the sickness i guess).

5) again, that's tough...i wish i would have gotten hunter s.
thompson...he did book signings here in l.a. and i missed both of them
because my car at the time sucked!

how are those answers?

1) What was the first autograph that attracted you to the hobby?

Star Wars graphs; got Jeremy Bulloch and James Earl Jones first by
mail and a four signed one (turned out to be bogus and my most
expensive graph; actually hubbys as it was a gift).

2) How many items are in your collection?

Thousands. I have more than 1300 different Star Wars graphs alone
(some of those multiples so maybe as many as 4000 total of Star
Wars... and I've a couple hundred Potter, Rings, and Probably close to
a hundred (never counted) Pirates. A couple hundred "others" and then
a couple dozen of various projects I guess. Somewhere between 5-7
thousand?

3) What would you say is your prized autographed item(s)?

Swee Lim (graph/letter/Shirts he sent), Gilda Cohen's SAG card (only
one of two graphs in total existance; both were mine and I gave one to
a friend); multi-signed anything, gifts from celebs, screening ticket
signed by Lucas, Sebastian Shaw multi-sig program, Several other
graphs have important meaning to me.

4) Who is someone living, that has so far eluded you, that would like
to add to your collection?

In person from Harrison Ford (so I don't have to overspend or have
people speculate on mine), Harry Taylor (driving me NUTS), I'd love to
have a legit Heath Ledger on a Knight's Tale photo, Some of the
Presidents, a few others.

5) Among celebrities or people of fame that have passed, who do you
regret not adding to your collection?

So many.

6) What historical signature would you like in your collection?

I want to get a few presidents and also I'd love to get some more
Egyptologists. My most favorite would be Howard Carter and Lord
Carnarvon.

For me:

1) I always thought that my first IP autograph was Nichelle Nichols in
1985. Turns out that my parents took me to an event where two Derrick

5) Bob Hope and Walt Disney

Oooh; I'd love Walt myself! and Dr. Seuss and Charles Schultz

6) Abraham Lincoln.

Impressive. :-) As for Dean Jones, I know you don't have a lot of
confidence in TTM, but I have received him via an address on my site.
I even received a nice handwritten note along with it. I don't think
that a secretary would have gone that far. :-) I'd give it a shot.

1) What was the first autograph that attracted you to the hobby?
Rico Petrocelli who was at a Special Olympics event. Didn't really know who
he was but saw people getting autographs and my brother in law said I should
also. The nervous excitement is still a feeling I enjoy when doing in
person autographs.

2) How many items are in your collection?

4000+

3) What would you say is your prized autographed item(s)?

My 15 signature Rolling Stones guitar , most complete in the world

4) Who is someone living, that has so far eluded you, that would like to
add to your collection?

Bob Dylan. I have a magazine in my store appraised and authenticated with
rock solid provenance but I've never been able to get him to personally put
pen to paper in person. He's so not normal.

5) Among celebrities or people of fame that have passed, who do you regret
not adding to your collection?

Marlon Brando. I never even made an effort and have regrets by not doing
so.

6) What historical signature would you like in your collection?
Albert Einstein. Especially because I'd have to make a one of a kind
custom display for it that would be borderline genius.

I remember Rico Petrocelli from way back! Very cool. What made you
go from that to music? I guess if I had that Stones Guitar, It'd be
my prize too... great stuff. As for regretting not getting sigs
before their deaths, John Lennon must be high on a lot of people's
lists....
