Mass scanning of stamps question
"Jan Doggen" wrote in message
. .. "Victor Manta" schreef in bericht ... As I see it, the problem with this software is not only that it is much too expensive but also that the result (Figure 5. Image after deskewing) still needs some rotation from hand. Wouldn't it be better, regardless of the software used, to try to put the stamps next to each other in a black page with transparant 'strips' (don't know the proper English word for those). Then they are always perfectly upright *and* they don't stick to the scanner lid (static), shift, overlap, or are blown away when you open the lid ;-). The only thing is that you might see the transparent strips, but for auctions that would be acceptable IMO. My 0,02 Bye Jan I suppose that seing the strip on stamps for auctions shoulnd't be a problem but for my web pages it isn't, unfortunately, an acceptable solution. -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philatelic Webmasters Organization: http://pwmo.org/ Art on Stamps: http://artonstamps.org/ Romania by Stamps: http://marci-postale.com/ Communism on Stamps: http://reds-on.postalstamps.biz/ Spanish North Africa: http://www.sna-on.postalstamps.biz/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Mass scanning of stamps question

... If there is something that still has to be rotated then it is not of much help if it was already improved. Agreed. As for automatic separation, this feature is useful but not difficult to do it by hand. The Epson "perfection 1670" allows multiple passes and I do 30 stamps at one button press, (each stamp requires the operator to surround it with a suitable sized marquee) All rather useless until they marry that with auto "deskew" IMHO which the Epson lacks. I leave enough space on the scanner window between the stamps, scan all of them, and then I rotate each of stamps in place (and sometimes all of them too, if there is a general direction). Then I cut out each rotated stamp from the general image, make adjustments and save each in the desired resolution. Very often I can make the adjustments for all stamps at once, after having rotated them in place, and then I cut them out. I would pay $50 for a program that correctly rotates the stamps, separate them and then let me import all images at ones into Photoshop et Co. -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philatelic Webmasters Organization: http://pwmo.org/ Art on Stamps: http://artonstamps.org/ Romania by Stamps: http://marci-postale.com/ Communism on Stamps: http://reds-on.postalstamps.biz/ Spanish North Africa: http://www.sna-on.postalstamps.biz/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

Mass scanning of stamps question
That is what I did in the dim dark days Victor. Automated multiple passes, is a marvelous advancement especially as it offers each pass with a high resolution. I scan at 500dpi, so 30 stamps at 500dpi is fast and easy. example here is six stamps at resolution 150dpi with marquees............. http://cjoint.com/data/ffosWh5esk.htm They dump straight into Photoshop or ACDSee. There are a multitude of software programs out there offering what you seek, but personally I am awaiting the relase of new scanners with the inbult option which should arrive soon. I leave enough space on the scanner window between the stamps, scan all of them, and then I rotate each of stamps in place (and sometimes all of them too, if there is a general direction). Then I cut out each rotated stamp from the general image, make adjustments and save each in the desired resolution. "J. A. Mc." wrote in message ... On 4 May 2006 10:05:10 -0700, " found these unused words floating about: Hi, I have Photoshop , but have never used the function you describe. Can you please tell me the name of the function or where to find the script to slice the images? Thanks. Suzi The 'function' is "Action", -=you=- write the script by doing it once in the record mode. Press F1 and select "Action". I'll have to look at this myself. Looks like it can help me scan covers faster. They are usually all the same size. |

Mass scanning of stamps question
EzImage does deskew quite well and can add black backgrounds too.
I realize it is pricey but if you do it day in and day out it will pay for itself. It depends on how you value your time. If you can afford to spend hours, then that is your choice. If you make a living from stamps, etc. one can justify the benefit. Al Dominique Stéphan wrote: Victor Manta a écrit: "Jan Doggen" wrote in message . .. "Victor Manta" schreef in bericht ... Al I'm not sure whether somebody who has to spend hours without using the program will or want still have to spend many of them with it. It would be interesting to know which percentage of the total of scanned and corrected images still needed to be rotated by hand in order to look OK. I also wonder which figure should be considered as being acceptable, taking into consideration the announced price? I suppose that not more then 5 percent but I'm not sure of that either. -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philatelic Webmasters Organization: http://pwmo.org/ Art on Stamps: http://artonstamps.org/ Romania by Stamps: http://marci-postale.com/ Communism on Stamps: http://reds-on.postalstamps.biz/ Spanish North Africa: http://www.sna-on.postalstamps.biz/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |

You can download the demo version and use it like I did for the review

"Al G." wrote in message ... You can download the demo version and use it like I did for the review to answer the questions you pose. Al Thanks you for your proposal. Looking at your review, I thinks that I remember (but I'm not sure) that I've done some tests some time ago, and that I've got the same results you got. Anyway, because I'm not a professional reviewer, I'm not able to answer the question which percentage of wrong results can be considered as acceptable for a given price, so I hoped that maybe you can answer it. Finally, I have decided to try another approach to the problem of automation of the mass scanning of stamps, and I will publish here the results soon . -- Victor Manta ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Philatelic Webmasters Organization: http://pwmo.org/ Art on Stamps: http://artonstamps.org/ Romania by Stamps: http://marci-postale.com/ Communism on Stamps: http://reds-on.postalstamps.biz/ Spanish North Africa: http://www.sna-on.postalstamps.biz/ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
