The Nation's Premier United States Stamp Collecting Society
The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society is a unique society of collectors and
students of the classic issues from the stampless period through the first bureau issues. It was founded in 1948 by an elite group of 1851-1857 specialists that included Dr. Carroll Chase, Stanley B. Ashbrook and Leo J. Shaugnessey. The Society is rich with prolific writers who publish the results of new studies each quarter in our award-winning, illustrated magazine, The Chronicle, and other publications. Most of all, we are here to promote enjoyment and fun of this hobby which has given us so many hours of pleasure. Some of our members have written important books, such as: - Simpson's U.S. Postal Markings, 1851-61 by Tom Alexander - Cancellations and Killers of the Banknote Era, 1870-1894 by James M. Cole - The United States One Cent Stamp of 1851-1861 by Mortimer L. Neinken - Railroad Postmarks, 1861-1886 by Towle-Meyer - North Atlantic Mail Sailings, 1840-75 by Walter Hubbard and Richard Winter - United States Incoming Steamship Mail 1847-1875, 2nd Edition by Theron Wierenga Advantages of Membership - Close contact with a select group of collectors from all over the world. Many are experts in their particular field of study. A Membership Directory is furnished to help you establish informative and mutually beneficial relationships. - A subscription to The Chronicle of the U.S. Classic Postal Issues. This journal is published quarterly, and every issue contains a wealth of new information resulting from research done by the premier philatelists of the period. The Chronicle is the only published journal devoted exclusively to U.S. Nineteenth Century philately. - A subscription to The Chairman's Chatter, the Society's newsletter that reports on the activities of the Society and its members. The Chatter provides timely information on Society award winners, seminars, publications for sale at member discounts, plans for the future, names of new members, and more. - The Society also sponsors philatelic publications that add significantly to the existing knowledge of early U.S. stamps and postal history.
