a run on console stereos ??
don't throw out those old consoles, people !
a person just sent a tractor trailer here from Maine, to pick one of them up- and paid the freight himself- in addition to $100 for the stereo another 2 guys drove down here from Canada, a 4.5 hour drive one way, and picked up another one- again $100 item the consoles are becoming collectible ! |

Some of the older pre-sixties stuff I could see. The cases were often of nice wood with nice finish. Especially something in danish modern. But the innards would be pretty lo-fi. By the time the systems in most consoles were becoming merely adequate sound-wise, the cases were particle board with wood simulated mactac coverings. |

I'd like to get one, take out the original equipment and replace it with a newer amp, magnetic cartridge turntable (ceramic SUCKS big time), and nice 8 track recorder... along with a record bin inside. Have the turntable shelf properly isolated and install excellent speakers. Sounds like an excellent summer project for next year! :-D |
