By Martin Neville

A RARE gold coin, found in the West Wight by a metal
detectorist and auctioned in New York, sold for
double its estimate.

The Visigothic tremissis, struck about AD 565-578,
sold for $4,000 at the Triton XII auction, held by
the Classical Numismatic Group at the
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Meanwhile, a 350-year-old Massachusetts silver
two-pence, also unearthed in the West Wight by a
metal detector enthusiast, sold for $4,250,
against an estimate of $5,000, in the same
auction.

Sounds like a great profession.

For every gold coin there are 1,000,000 ring pulls that go beep beep. Billy

I didn't mean I'd want to waste my time doing it, I just thought the name sounded
professional.
