I have a 222 myself and I disagree that this box is worse than an HR,
as in the 222 the HR's speakers are mounted in exactly the same
manner it's detractor already pointed out.

all of that being said the amp in the 222 should be unplugged, they
are fire hazards...cut in a new high powered amp and get some better
speakers of the same size [please keep the speakers and amp...do not
sell or discard] you'll be very happy with the box if you do this. you
can't expect y2k sound out of a 50 year old machine, unless you change
some components
