How to sell a bulk lot of stamps?
I went to an estate sale this morning (I sell pottery and glass on eBay,
so I go to estate sales a fair amount), and I saw two large boxes of foreign stamps for $10. Didn't know if they were worth anything, but I figured $10 wasn't all that big a gamble, and I could probably find a crafter to buy them for that amount if they weren't worth anything as stamps. I know absolutely nothing about stamps, and I'm not the proud owner of roughly 56 pounds of them. There are stamps from all over the world, Asia, South America, Europe, etc..., some are on pages, others are loose. Some are on envelopes that say first day covers. I'm assuming that a great many would be worthless, but even if I had the books I don't have the experience to try to pick the good ones (if any) from the worthless ones. If you were going to sell stamps like this on eBay, how would you do it? Would you try to lump them into small lots of a few thousand each, photograph some samples, start with a low starting price and see what happens? Divide them up by country of issue? Something else I'm not thinking about? Any advice would be appreciated. Please reply to the group, the address I posted under is legitimate but I don't ever check it, I just use it for a spam trap for usenet posting. |
