The minting of the Hawaii state quarter Tuesday ends a 10-year program in which coins were produced commemorating each state. Hawaii's coin features Hawaiian monarch King Kamehameha I stretching his hands toward the eight major Hawaiian Islands with the inscription of the state motto in the Native Hawaiian language. It will go into circulation Nov. 4. More than 34 billion of the commemorative quarters have been produced, released at 10-week intervals in the order states were admitted into the Union. Mint officials expect about 300 million Hawaii quarters to be produced. ..... |
