Odd German overprint on Italian stamps
I must admit that it is unusual for me to be stumped on
Italian material, but an accumulation that I have been given includes two Italian stamps (Imperiale issue) overprinted Deutches Reich with bars obliterating Poste Italiane, and a new value over the original. I suspect this is a post-war fabrication (a 'Florence welcomes the allies' and another unofficial overprint that I have seen before was also present) However, if anyone can point me in another direction I would be most interested. I shall scan the two stamps, but one is dark brown and the other dark blue, so I doubt that the overprints will show up. -- Tony Clayton Coins of the UK : http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk Sent using RISCOS on an Acorn Strong Arm RiscPC .... Yes, GPS is the Germany Philatelic Society.
The Florence "issue" wasn't really intended to defraud anybody. It merely expresses a sentiment. It rates a listing in the 1977 catalog by Errani & Giannetto, and also gets mentioned (but not listed) in the comprehensive 1988 catalog by Errani & Raybaudi-Massilia.
