to have written:

Suppose you had a token made of Zinc and to remove some gunk, you soaked it in
acetone. Suppose also the token was of no great rarity or value but was of interest
to you
so you want to preserve it. Since Zinc is very subject to oxidation ...........
Would you put something on it to protect it like say 3 in 1 oil?
Or what? Would you put a $0.25 retail value token in an expensive holder?

Dale

I'd use CARE (or blue ribbon, if i didn't have CARE), then put it into an
Intercept shield holder.

In article , Dale Hallmark
spoke thusly...

Would you put a $0.25 retail value token in an expensive holder?

Depends upon your definition of expensive. Would I spend more than
the coin is worth for a holder to protect it? Sure. Would I send it
in to be put in an ICG intercept slab with all the trimmings for 20
or 30 dollars? Probably not unless the coin was really, really
special to me.

I've seen a lot of old copper that's been varnished to protect the
surface. In your case I'd feel comfortable smearing some Vaseline on
it.

Hell, yes. The holder is only expensive because of the amount of
protection you are supposedly getting. The value of the item enclosed
doesn't factor in, for me. If you want to conserve the token, forget
about what price range of holder it 'deserves' and just move to protect it!

Dale, If you do not want to spend the money to have it
slabbed, go to a parts store, (car parts) and ask for a
can of clear engine ceramic enamel..... It is very hard
when it dries and you will see a shine to it, but it does
not look like it has been coated either.... I would try it
with a few cents to get the spearing down good before I
sprayed my token.... Either that, or follow Alan's
instructions........

a token made of Zinc ... was of no great rarity or value but was of interest

to you so you want to preserve it. Would you put something on it to protect it
like say 3 in 1 oil? Or what? Would you put a $0.25 retail value token in an
expensive holder?

Ok I think I'm about to get flamed here, BUTT...

If it were mine, if it were zinc, if it were worth 25¢, and if it were special
to me, I'd seriously consider having it professionally replated in zinc so that
the details were sharp and clear, then have it put in a holder, possibly a
slab.

.... Probably the only conditions where I'd consider ACG.

How would replating sharpen detail?
