SWINDLING HONORED AS
ANA'S 2003 OUTSTANDING YN

At the American Numismatic Association's (ANA) 112th Anniversary
Convention in Baltimore, July 30-August 3, Jeffrey Swindling of Ft.
Lauderdale, Florida, was named the 2003 recipient of the ANA Award for
Outstanding Young Numismatist.
Established in 1968, the award annually recognizes the numismatic
achievements of top young collectors, selected on the basis of club and
community involvement; numismatic exhibits, talks and articles; and
personal achievements. The winner receives a life membership in the ANA
and a gold coin donated by former "YN of the Year" Mark Hotz.
Since his pre-school days, Swindling has been interested in coins,
becoming a serious collector six years ago after earning the Boy Scout
Coin Collecting Merit Badge. Eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm
with young collectors, in March he conducted a very successful merit badge
workshop at the ANA's National Money Show in Charlotte, North Carolina.
A recent high-school graduate, 18-year-old Swindling was involved in
a strenuous academic program and was active in extracurricular activities,
spending a great deal of time pursuing his numismatic hobby. He is a
member of Florida United Numismatists, Greater Jacksonville Coin Club,
Young Numismatists of America, Central States Numismatic Society and
Combined Organizations of Numismatic Error Collectors of America (CONECA),
and founder and president of the Stanton Numismatic Society. He served as
Scout Chairman on the local committee for the ANA's National Money Show in
Ft. Lauderdale in March 2000.
A collector of 20th-century U.S. coins, Swindling particularly likes
the 1883 "No Cents" (or "Racketeer") nickel because of the colorful tales
that surround it. He is an accomplished speaker on the topic of
numismatics, delivering numerous presentations before high-school classes
and coin club members.
For these and many other accomplishments, the ANA is pleased to
present Jeffrey Swindling with the ANA Award for Outstanding Young
Numismatist.
