How does one adjust the nib/feed to get the pen to write?

It's a bit difficult to say without looking at the pen.

Some things to check:

Are you recapping the pen when you set it aside? Most fountain pens
will start hard if you leave them uncapped.

Has ink dried up in the pen? Perhaps a flush with cold water could
help.

Are the tines aligned?
