Default Brass plating

I seem to keep coming across more and more references (here in RCC and
elsewhere) to "brass plated" coins and other items.

Google yields many references, including services that claim to brass-plate.

I understand how brass can be used to *clad* a base metal.
I understand how brass *be* plated (with another metal).

What I don't understand is how brass, an alloy, can be used to electroplate
anything.

Is "brass-plating" a misnomer, or does it mean "brass-cladding" or "plating
over brass"

Any metallugists out there?

TIA

The most frequent, as well as the most recent, reference here to "brass

plated"
refers to Lincoln cents.

Since mid-1982 US Lincoln cents have been struck on zinc planchets plated

with
pure copper. Sometimes the copper plating bath can become contaminated

from the
zinc resulting in the zinc being plated with brass.

Thanks Phil.
I have to admit, though, I still have problems with the electrochemistry of
that process.

Electroplating anything other than a pure element?
