Default SATRAP and others, too! Best orange fountain pen inks?

I just got my first orange fountain pen. I think I'll order some orange
fountain pen ink soon. But which one I should choose? It must be dark
enough. Hence, I think I'd better get red-orange and not yellow-orange.
Also some kind of burnt orange may be good.

Please tell me your opinions and experiences on these:

- Diamine Orange
- Noodler's Ink Cayenne
- Private Reserve Orange Crush
- J. Herbin Orange Indien
- Tintenmanufaktur Jansen / De Atramentis Rotorange (Red Orange)

I am not interested in those inks that are available only i cartridges
(for example Sheaffer Skrip Orange).

Hi Juhapekka,

I have not yet tried Diamine, or Jansen, but thanks for bringing them
to my attention. Also, I plan to order Cayenne in my next round of
inks, but I DO have Noodler's Habanero (I just love those peppers) in
my new blue LIaison (eBay purchase for 120.00, which included insurance
and priority shipping). The Habanero is nnice, intense red orange. Oh,
I never match ink to pens. Why be normal?

Here is what I think of the oranges that I know, but I will take
correction on any of my errors:

PR Orange Crush is a nice, intense, bright orange. It is named for a
soft drink we had during my youth (I am 52). I like it.

Orange Indien is also a nice orange; it is a little on the red side, if
I remember. It has a lighter "texture" than PR. I like this one too,
just haven't used it in a long time.

Conway Stewart makes a nice orange, a light and bright orange. Bright,
kind of like a highliter. Nice.

Sheaffer orange is nice but a little weak. I add red to it.

Lamy red (thanks, Mark in AZ!) is really a red/orange. very nice.
Maybe you should start with that one, if you want a red/orange.

It has been a long time since I used Waterman's red, but I think it
leans a little to the orange side. Buy that one, and a Sheaffer
orange, and mix the two!
You can buy Sheaffer's orange in a bottle.

If you want a burnt orange look, I am thinking you could get Sheaffer
orange and put a few drops of black ink in it? Not sure. Hopefully,
some expert will come in and correct me.

I have never met an orange I didn't like.

That's all I can think of right now. Have Fun!!!!!

Two other Noodler's are worth considering: Naval [sic] Orange and
Goldfinch. Both are waterproof. Sold by Swisher.

According to Ink facts -page on WWW-pages of Pendemonium Noodler's Ink
Habanero has lighter colour than Cayenne. Therefore I want to try
Cayenne, first.

http://www.pendemonium.com/ink_facts.htm

I try to match ink colours to pen colours as much as practically
possible. It is just for the sake consistency. If it is not possible or
easy to find suitable pen for some exotic ink colour, I put that ink to
some demonstrator pen. BTW my first demonstrator pen, Lamy Vista, is
just on its way from missing-pen.de to my home. For flighter pens or
other pens of silvery colour I use black.

BTW have you tried this orange fountain pen?: Aurora Ipsilon Satin in
color called "lobster orange".

Conway Stewart makes a nice orange, a light and bright orange. Bright,
kind of like a highliter. Nice.

WWW-pages of Pendemonium claim that Conway Stewart has discontinued
making of fountain pen inks. Pendemonium still have orange and red left.
But The Writing Desk (at UK) still sells them and they say nothing about
discontinuing them:

http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/conway/conway_ink.php

BTW try this page, too:

http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/ink_...all&colour=red
http://www.thewritingdesk.co.uk/ink_...&colour=yellow

Lamy red (thanks, Mark in AZ!) is really a red/orange. very nice.
Maybe you should start with that one, if you want a red/orange.

Really? If it is too red for my taste, maybe I can put some Private
Reserve Shoreline Gold to it. But Ink Facts -page of Pendemonium claims
that Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Red is a little bit more orange-y than Lamy
Red.

It has been a long time since I used Waterman's red, but I think it
leans a little to the orange side. Buy that one, and a Sheaffer
orange, and mix the two!

Ink pages of Glenn Marcus claim that color of Waterman Red changes from
bottle to bottle very much.

http://www.marcuslink.com/pens/ink/waterman.htm

You can buy Sheaffer's orange in a bottle.

AFAIK Sheaffer Skrip Orange is no more made in bottles. But there may be
many bottles of them left on the shelfs of many shops, though.

* * *

I almost forgot to mention this recipe. It is said it will melt your
eyes:

Satrap's Orange:

1 part Sheaffer Skrip Red
1 part Sheaffer Skrip King's Gold

Well, first they discontinued that King's Gold and started to sell Gold,
instead. Then they stopped selling that Gold in bottles. On the other
hand, it is said that Gold is not so golden as King's Gold. But I have
heard that Private Reserve Shoreline Gold is a good substitute for
Sheaffer Skrip King's Gold. Sheaffer Skrip Red is still available in
bottles.

So, how about this recipe? Have somebody ever tried it? Does it melt
your eyes?:

1 part Sheaffer Skrip Red (Made in Slovenia)
1 part Private Reserve Shoreline Gold

There's major snippage with comments below.

The Conway Stewart is nice, but I think it might be too light for
you, Juhapekka, given the original post. To my eyes, it is a yellow
orange. I think J. Herbin's orange indien might be too light as
well, but on the red side.

I like the Lamy red as a reddish orange when it is fresh. Be
forewarned though, written samples that are a few years old are
tending more toward red than orange.

Regardless, I find Sheaffer's orange to be light in color.

Nobody has mentioned Private Reserve's Shoreline Gold in this
thread. I haven't used it for some time, but samples that are a
couple years old look like a dark reddish orange to me. Anybody else
care to comment on this?
