anyone know the engraver? gossip?

Yes, I see Blair,
it was my guess, a Wyvern as I could not confirm
with the back legs hidden from view.
Gibbons declares the image as "two white women"
but I feel there is an allegory present.

Your link suggests "generally" destructive and predatory,
there must be other accepted meanings, the British car maker
Vauxhall had a model "Wyvern", which may suggest a derivitive
form of predatory, perhaps strength and tenacity.

The lithographs were made locally, so who knows what was
in the designers mind
perhaps a less than amicable feeling towards mother country.
