I was wondering as times go by are certain people still worth what
they once were (like Stephen King)? I know some go inflated values
then decline; then go up again or never are worth much. I know if
they die the prices go up (I see Arthur C Clarke is fetching a good
amount now as is Leon Uris).

I see some going down like Guliani, Carter and others. Jimmy Carter
is lower now because there's a ton (though he still fetches ok amounts
because of his Presidency). Some decline in popularity.

Anyway, today my interest was around Stephen King because I bid on a
book and I don't want to pay too much.

it really just depends on how much material is out there...and the
demand for the product...
bidding on ebay is tricky because, as we've stated, you are lucky if
25% of the stuff on ebay is legit anyway. some guys like that are
always in demand, especially as he is trying to retire. i'm sure there
will be less and less stuff down the pipe in the coming years...i know
he did a book signing in los angeles about 8 months ago and left in
the middle of it, kinda ****ed off. so that means less and less stuff.
it really depends on the item it's on and the popularity.
like, i got dan brown on several books during a weeklong stay in los
angeles. what are those worth, seriously? i see them going for about
$175 or so, depending on the auction house i look through. steven king
is the most popular author (except for rowling) that's out there with
a lot of items out...you know, 20+ years of writing books and doing
book signings, so there should be quite a bit of stuff out there.
does that make sense? anyone know of where i can get a nice first
edition of hunter thompson?

Is it true that he used to sign 2 books for each household in the 80's/
90's? I wasn't into collecting then. I read on here last year that
someone got a letter back saying he was done.

If you can get 175 on those, I should've bid higher... I lost the book
(150 total including the shipping was my limit). It was a limited
edition autographed book in leather limited to only 100 (and it was
embossed on the cover in gold lettering to that effect as well as
printed on the flyleaf). I thought it might be worth in the 300's but
I felt like I didn't want to chance it and I had a lot of expensive
bids on items (lost them all basically but oh well, we spent a lot
last night at the concert).
