Agreed Alan !

One can notice the new policy of "La Poste" regarding the Red Cross
stamps.
The face value is .50 Euro (Priority rate for less than 20 grams covers
to France and Europe) but those stamps are sold in booklets of 10 stamps
at 6.60 Euros instead of 5.00 Euros.
The difference (1.60 Euro) is given to the Red Cross.

Previouly, those Red Cross stamps were having a dual face value : in
that case, it would have been .50 + .16 Euro.

The face value has been simplified but a small gift is still forwarded
to the Red Cross.

I also agree with you !
This is really an ugly representation of Marilyn Monroe whereas there
are so nice others :-(((

Hello

It was the same with the block issued for the characters set :

url:http://timbres.laposte.fr/fre/zoom.pgi?omm=/fre/omm/produit/zoom/1103080_g.jpg

It is written : « Bloc 4,60 € dont 1,60 € reversés à la Croix-Rouge
Française » (block sold 4,60 € from which 1.60 € given to the French
Red-Cross).

Hi Didier,

The link you're providing sometimes works, sometimes doesn't : depending
on the mood of "La Poste" Internet site's webmaster ???

;-)

BTW, one should replace the "?" in Didier's post by "Euro(s)" : he
forgot to use the right coding system in his post in order to display
correctly the Euro sign.
And in fact this is "Mission Impossible" : there will be always somebody
not seeing this sign correctly.
It is why I gave up and I no more use the Euro sign in my posts but
rather type the four letters ...

All the best,
Pierre Courtiade

to answer me, please replace my 1st name by my last one

It might work better if he left off the "url:" part.

Odd, the Euro signs in his post looked OK to me, only in your quoting of
his message did they appear as ?s.

I don't see the Euro sign, and this in both postings. Strange.

Here are several Euro signs from my PC (using a Swiss keyboard):
€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€€. I have sent them as Unicode.

so I wonder what you actually see.

Just to mention that the new French Red Cross booklets are very nice (the
exterior part, with paintings, being even nicer than the stamps themselves).

On my Macintosh, I see a string of Euro symbols.

-----

We've been talking about the problems computers and computer users seem to
have displaying various symbols, fonts and accents. It all became "clear" to
me after reading an article written by one of my son's friends. It seems
that we aren't the only ones frustrated by this aspect of computer use, nor
is it going to go away any time soon. The article:
http://www.applelust.com/oped/applepeel/archives/peel_03_010308.shtml.

Another article by the same author address the problem from the perspective
of the French language:
http://www.applelust.com/oped/applepeel/archives/peel_33_020621.shtml.

I found the articles a bit too technical for my vocabulary and understanding
of computers in general, but I know that many of you will have no problems
with that.

Bob

P.S. When I first tried to send this post, I was warned, "This message must
be sent as Unicode, which may not work with older mail clients." I assume
that that refers to Victor's use of Euro symbols, since I didn't do anything
differently. I therefore assume that my computer can decode Unicode.

So do I on my pc. How does one "construct" the Euro
symbol? The symbol is on my keybord together with
other monetary symbols, but no way of writing the Euro
symbol.

The cent is constructed by holding down the 'alt'-key and
then the numericals 0162. The Yen is 'alt' + 0165, the
Pound is 'alt' + 0163. But no way of writing the Euro
symbol.

Probably alt +0178. Microsoft added the Euro symbol to their Codepage=20
1252 at that point. Whether your fonts have a Euro symbol is a different =

question.
