Aust FDC CD Rom
Two of the Australian Cover Society's founding members, Paul Walker and Frank
Pauer, are currently working on a specialised catalogue of Australian First Day Covers. To be published on cd rom, the catalogue will include images of the many different cachet types for each stamp issue. Each will be priced along with a rarity rating and identified by producer (where known). Variations of colour and text will also be illustrated and priced together with relevant postmarks. Even part sets and single stamps from sets will be individually priced. For the first time, covers produced by the Northern Stamp Company and and Stewart's stamp shop are identified and priced. .. A wealth of background in-formation is being assembled for inclusion in the catalogue which will effectively mean that it is more an encyclopaedia than a mere catalogue. Profiles of leading producers will include fascinating previously unpublished details together with illustrations of all their known Australian First day covers. Asked whether there would be a hardcopy of the catalogue, Paul explained that initial indications were that the production costs would be prohibitive. "When complete, we anticipate that the catalogue will include more than 10,000 full-colour images and the equivalent of 1,000 A4 pages of listings and articles. "The only practical way to present this volume of information is on cd rom. By utilising "hotlinks", catalogue users will be able to easily navigate between listings, background in-formation and other related material." The catalogue will be re-leased in parts, each new part designed to fully integrate with that already released. Part One covers the 'Georgian' period (to end of 1952) with the numerous rarities illustrated including the only known first day cover for 1942 2.5d scarlet KGV1 Can you help? Naturally both Paul and Frank are keen to make the catalogue as comprehensive as possible, so if you have any pre-1953 Australian First Day Covers that you think may be "out of the ordinary" please send a scan or description to Frank at or phone 03 97616701 They are keen to hear of if you have unusual cachets, stamp multiples imprints, plate numbers, gutter pairs or blocks, or information on FDC producers. All contributors will be acknowledged. Australian Stamp News 2003 Posted with permission. |
