Default UK Online Stamp Auction

I will, of course, offer best wishes to "Stamps4Collectors," but I do
wonder: how it is possible for there to be room in the philatelic
marketplace for new auction sites? It seems to me that every couple of weeks
someone announces a new one, and they all seem to share one thing in common
-- almost no bids! Have I just been seduced by eBay, or is there really a
possibility that any of these new organizations can survive? It seems very
unlikely!

I often wonder the same thing. I think the impetus is that stamp collectors
tend to like live auctions - and so many figure they will also like internet
auctions. I think we do - but the problem is too many auctions are too much
to handle. I love live auctions, but if I were to do more than one every
couple of months I'd never have any money to spend on my hobby (my wife
would take all my credit cards away ;-) ). I have looked into some of the
online auctions, even signed up for some auction houses that use the
internet to view their lots. But the fact is I stay with ebay - easy, fast,
lots of material and if something gets away it will be back soon enough. And
I save my fervent bidding for the real auction floors - where it is the fun
of the moment that gets you.

I wonder how many other's share this feeling. Stamp collecting is a fairly
solitary endeavour - so clubs and auctions are critical for me to feel part
of a real community of collectors. Virtual auctions just don't do it for me.

just my 2 cents.
Frank
