Particularly pretty purple penny picked--POO! probably painted??
I found a 1984 Lincoln cent that looked really cool a few years ago. It was
turning all purple-ish. I thought that was weird so I tossed it back in the penny junk can and forgot about it. Never found that one again--must be with my other sock. Damn that penny!! The other day I went thru some pennies I bought off a friend. Went thru that twice and on the second time around I found another 1984 penny that is absolutely bright candy-apple purple. I've found rainbow colors on pennies B4, but this one is perplexing me to no end. I'd feel like an idiot taking that to someone with some real knowledge only to find out it's nail polish. Don't know how I missed it on the first try because it really is a bright purple. Esp. on the reverse. Now I have a hard time believing that a penny would turn that color on it's own. When I look at it under high magnification there's no signs of brush marks or globs of anything on any of the devices. There was some dry dirt covering "One Cent"--rinsed that off and it's the same old dull brown you would find on a circulated 1984 penny. The dirt wasn't purple and the tone is on most of the high spots too. It doesn't look "flaky" either. No smells except copper. It's supposedly sat for years in the Tequila bottle full of pennies I bought. |

I seen a few and have a couple of purple toned proof cents from the 60s-70s, may have been the Mint packaging. -- Michael R ANA #173222 Ebay and Yahoo ID ~ mrae7 |
