Default eBay Booksearch Improvement?

I know that 98.7 percent of the time when eBay makes an exciting new
improvement it costs sellers more $ and results in fewer sales..can't
see why this would be any different. I'm just gonna wait and see
where this particular stinkbomb detonates.....

Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos,
And drank til I was thirsty again
We went searching through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen"

I am using this option; I search for certain authoris and certain
categories all the time. This speeds up searches for me.

As with most schemes designed to make something foolproof, this one
underestimates the persitence of foolishness.

The new system will only be as good as the seller entering the "item
specific" information, and it will be undermined by sellers who don't know
how to describe books, and those who deliberately *misdescribe* their books.
A seller who doesn't know how to identify first printings, or one who lies
about his books being firsts, will still get it wrong. The same goes for
sellers who can't properly identify printing dates, binding materials, or
even subject headings. (I still recall that copy of Carolyn Chute's novel,
"The Beans of Egypt, Maine" listed in the Asian history category.)

Good sellers will continue to describe their books well, poor sellers will
continue to do so poorly, and the new search system will have the
unfortunate effect of giving many buyers false confidence in the
completeness of the search results and the accuracy of the listings.

They've implemented this "item specifics" in other categories, and
it's not been helpful. In Pottery/Glass, for instance, one block
will ask for a pattern name -- and although a legitimate entry is
made, the user gets an error message.

With all of the particulars involved in books, and eBay's propensity
for rejecting data they don't recognize, this will be interesting
for those who try to use it.

the problem is that it might exclude books that aren't in a specific
category.
