Sri Lanka - Elephant Orphanage mini-sheet

On July 13, 2003 Sri Lanka issued a set for
the Sri Lankan Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawala.

Started in 1972, the Elephant Orphanage was relocated
to the present site in 1975

I think the mini-sheet is most attractive and with
a reasonable face value of 70 Rupees (about 75 cents US).

Very attractive sheet indeed, Blair. I know of a similar
Elephant Orphanage in Chiang Dao, directly north of
Chiang Mai in Thailand, but have never come across
any stamps from there, except for this vending machine
stamp from 2001, which -- under the circumstances --
is one of the better "stamps" of this type I've seen.

This mini-sheet is indeed beautiful : what a good idea they had !

And it is a dramatic change from the current "stamps" from too many
nations : alas, the tendancy is now to issue images on subjects totally
unrelated to their own fauna, flora, history, geography, culture, ...
