Unconfirmed.
Norfolk Island issues are now valid postage within Australia.

Not true according to the auspost web site.

What postage stamps are valid for the prepayment of postage in
Australia?
Postage stamps that are valid for the prepayment of postage in
Australia at the current time are those:

* Inscribed "Australia", from 14/02/1966 to current
* Inscribed "Australian Antarctic Territory", from 28/09/1966 to
current
* Inscribed "Cocos (Keeling) Islands", from 09/07/1969 to
02/09/1979
* Inscribed "Cocos (Keeling) Islands Australia", from 17/02/1994
to current
* Inscribed "Christmas Island Australia", from 04/03/1993 to
current

In the case of Norfolk Island stamps they are not valid for postage
within Australia.

Hello Blair,
yes, it appears perhaps a little gossip has got out of hand,
but I can see where it has come from, (and this may interest Ralphael)
When I went Googling, I came across this topic on Stampboards
(and I do not know if this is someone yanking our legs)
but there appeared a curious Souvenir sheet of Australian stamps
together with a Norfolk Island (NI) stamp inclusive.

Why would Australian print and charge for a stamp that no one can use bar in NI?

OK. it seems rather absurd though,Tony.
We may see in the future, this stamp commonly
cancelled on Aust piece, I cannot see how the auto machines
will pick it up, unless of course the souvenir sheet is not commonly purchased.
Have you ever seen "The Teapot of truth" on cover

How often do you see anything but booklet definitives on letters these
days? At the moment, I'm using Cocos Island commemoratives on all my
mail, business and personal. Completely philatelic and contrived, of
course, and of course 99.99% of recipients won't notice, and will
simply junk the envelope. But perhaps one in a few thousand will
notice, and save the envelope. So every couple of years, one of my
envelopes will be noticed and saved for posterity. [Sigh ...]

You're not on your Pat Malone,
I received a package from Ian Boulton yesterday
(peelable hinges) and he is using Cocos 27year old vintage,
Not Contrived per se, just using up junk from phossick boxes.

Strangely enough, I do not have a mint or used copy of the 65c Aboriginal,
never came across one in 9 years of dumpsters.
