Weak struck golden dollar
I know nothing about coin collecting, but I recently found a weakly
struck golden dollar. The only thing on the head of the dollar is her head. The only thing you can see on the back is part of the eagle. The coin is thinner than a regular golden dollar, causing the weak strike. Other than the partial strike on each side, the coin is flat and has no other edges of any kind. How much could this be worth? |

I'm not an expert in varieties or errors, but if it is truly lighter, it's possible it could have been struck on a planchet intended for another coin. First thing I wold do is get an actual comparable weight on a gram scale between this coin and a normal SAC. Others will jump in here with other comments I'm sure. Chances are it's worth keeping as an interesting anomoly, but not worth a premium amount. What chu talkin' bout Willis?? .... If that coin is indeed thinner then normal and if it's a true mint error, someone will pay a hefty price for it. As you said, it needs to be weighed and looked at by someone who knows the minting process. I sent an e-mail to the poster asking for an image. -- Jason Craton ---- CONECA N-3407 --- WINS #5 --------------------------- Interested in error coins? http://www.error-coins.com - A work in progress (lack of progress really). |

Brass bucks are most certainly clad. Go fish one out of a box (or where ever you might have one) and take a close look at the edge. You will see a copper core with the purdy golden color alloy layers on the obverse and reverse. -- Jason Craton ---- CONECA N-3407 --- WINS #5 --------------------------- Interested in error coins? http://www.error-coins.com - A work in progress (lack of progress really). |

All my Unc's are in holders, the others look as if they were on the ocean floor or something. If they are clad, I stand corrected, I thought they were solid alloy. 8-( Coin Saver |
