Default The Reagan Issue

Who is the congressperson trying to get Reagan on the dime? Maybe I should
write to them on bringing back the $500 bill, and issuing a new $200 bill with
Reagan on it. What do you guys think? Think it might have a chance of gaining
interest?

The guy behind the bill (which Nancy Reagan has disapproved of) is a
Hoosier Republican, with about 85+ other Republican (only) U.S.
congressmen signed on.

An equal number of Democratic congressmen (plus one Republican- the man
who represents FDR's home district of Hyde Park, NY) are lined up behind
a move AGAINST changing the FDR dime.

The strict party-line breakdown here is absolute
"plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face" proof that this is a political issue,
and a political issue ONLY.

PLEASE, folks-- enough of this Reagan on money thing, already.

Give the man a chance to die in peace, and his family the privacy they
deserve.

There was a cute editorial cartoon (Toles) in the 9 Dec Washington Post.
A two-panel piece, it showed Reagan on a dime in the upper panel and
asked the question what should President Bush appear on. The lower
panel showed his picture on a credit card with no limit. Clever, but
politically liberal as usual. But then any public figure tributes
funded by US citizens' money end up being political.

I agree with a "cool it" period for anyone considered for depiction on a
US coin. If people can still rattle off significant accomplishments
attributed to Reagan fifty years from now, perhaps he should then make
the list.

I thing I agree with you Bruce.

Reagan's accomplishments don't equal those of his predecessors.

I'm sick and tired of the depiction of professional politicians on our coins. Liberty and We Are One, say more about our country than images of politicians and religious slogans.

I believe that the first allegorical representations of Liberty are far more
ideal for our coinage than politicians whose only real accomplishments were
successfull covering up their failures.

I agree. Let's put him on a stamp and then forget about him.

I don't think it's a congressperson, I think it's some Republican
Science-Fiction nut job who wants to depose the Democrat on the coin.

It started as, and remains to be, a "rumor".
