CH well - the only problem with this is that most of the dirt cheap FPs I've found (as I wanted to do the same) had either rolled-tip nibs (not actual tipping) or were "Iridium Pt. Germany" nibs. I found these hard to turn into decent nibs of any sort. I suppose with more patience it's doable but I got very frustrated with trying to make something of these - they just didn't smooth well like some of the better nibs. I think this means the tipping has a tendency to get pitted when grinding or something. BUT - that said, there are plenty out there - check out www.pencloseout.com - there seem to be a plethora of cheapos there. I would find out thought if they actually have tipping material rather than rolled tips. Rolled tips can still be ground - they will just have to be bare steel nibs - probably more suitable for sharp italic nibs. The worker bee gets good press but I dont' know what sort of nib it has. if you can go to ebay - that's a good place to look too. Not all IPG nibs are the same either so you might find some that are more conducive to grinding than the ones I found. |
