Why do autograph cards suck so bad?

All I ask is a decent phot and a clear autograph. But it seems card
companies will do everything they can to screw up autograph cards. I've
seen the photo of the player in black and white, I've seen the photo so
small you needed a magnifying glass, and I've seen them use a photo of
a player on an obscure team that they rarely played for. I've seen
cards with the set logo or the company so big it was bigger than the
authograph. I've seen the player use pens that were clearly starting to
run out of ink. I've seen the obscure the autograph by superemposing
logos on the background. Its like the companies sit around and ask
themselves how they can make the card look worse. There are a few
exceptions for baseball. 99 SPx is really well done. 2003 Sp Authentic
is awesome. I like most of the Ultimate Collection Autos. But the good
ones are few and far between.Is it that hard? Upper Deck, usually a
hallmark of quality is to blame as well. The card companies do a fine
job designing the sets. Why do they mess the auto's up so bad?
