I own a Topps '53 Mantle with a layer of very thin plastic laminate on
the front side. Anyone know how to remove it or how badly it hurts the value? |

Hi Jim, I'd hesitate to offer any advice in removing the laminate, for fear of helping you ruin the card. With a situation like this, the card is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. But unless it looks very strange, I suspect you could get a couple hundred for it on eBay. Ron |

If someone did laminate a true 1953 Topps Mantle the paper separates if you
trim the plastic and try to get the card out. The only way to do it is to use steam and hope the card separates from the lamination without sticking to the plastic. The lamanation over time with the acid properties of the plastic ruins the card. If you did get it out though you could then at least put it in a screwdown holder to make it a bit more presentable. most of the time when you find cards laminated that are older your better off to just sell them that way for many we have down we have screwed up in trying to restrore more than it was really worth.
