Opinions
Does anyone care to share their opinion on whether this seller is
auctioning authentic vintage cards or not? http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZwal...cruiterQQhtZ-1 Thanks, Ron |

Does anyone care to share their opinion on whether this seller is
auctioning authentic vintage cards or not? The auction says that authenticity is not assured. Think someone dirtied up some reprints? |

Think someone dirtied up some reprints? It's possible. If they are reprints, they've been doctored to look old and used. There's even gum stains on the back of the 1951 Mantle. The red flags I see include the private auctions, the fact that none of have been graded. and the low "buy it now" prices. On the other hand, except for the private auctions it also has the markings of a "fire sale" where someone needs the cash quick. The seller has been on eBay for year, unlike most of the others who try to pass off reprints as real. He has good feedback. And most of the cards look authentic. With a nice collection like this, someone would be far better off getting them graded (and thereby authenticated) before selling. Then they should sell them in individual auctions instead of in lots. The way they're selling will guarantee the least return. Ron |

Think someone dirtied up some reprints? All the cards are gone now. I might be a great big fool, but I bought a 1951 Bowman Mantle from him. The darned thing just looks real to me. Call it a gamble. I'll have it authenticated and see if I won or lost. I can live with the results either way. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=5166225 333 Ron |

Good morning Ron.I wish you the best with the Mantle. But I already was
burned by these same cards. From a different person who was unaware himself.I purchased a Mantle rookie,Robinson rookie,Namath rookie, and a 38 Goudey Joe Dimagio. When I had them authenticated they were all counterfeits.According to the person/company that authenticated the cards that I had received. It was and probably still is a scam that has been going on for a while. The counterfeits originated in Florida and are being sold in a few other major outlets in the U.S.One being California and another in Hawaii.Hawaii is where I got mine. But like I say, good luck.Thanks,Winston. -- Does anyone care to share their opinion on whether this seller is auctioning authentic vintage cards or not? I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here. If they're fake, they're outright counterfeits or forgeries, designed to look old and real. An honest seller could pass them on unawares. It's definitely "buyer beware" with some the more expensive vintage cards. The best policy is to buy them slabbed from trusted and knowledgeable dealers. Ron |
