Default Scott 11 stamp

One of my few purchases at my first bourse a month ago was 3 stock book
pages of mint stamps with a few cxl'd ones mixed in. I paid like $6 for
around 200+ stamps, almost all being early 1900's and mint. Having had
an opportunity to look closer at them now, behind another stamp I found
what I am reasonably sure is a Scott 11, 3¢ Washington - I'm all stoked
now! The colors are quite dull and if fits the descriptions I've
gleaned from a Scott Specialized, a Harris BNA, a USPS Guide to US
Stamps, my trusty Mystic catalog and the internet - yes, I read your
piece there Bob. Having looked closely at it with a regular magnifying
glass, a 10x loupe, my QX3 and my scanner, I'm "reasonably" comfortable
its an 11.

So what I'm curious about is where it may have been cancelled from.
Clearly I can read the month and day (SEP 3) but no year, it would have
been on the cover due to the size of the cancel. Its a large round
cancel and the city(?) name I can read part of is "MAVER". The M is not
clear but I can see both feet and some of the upper legs so I'm pretty
sure by their symmetry its an M. There are characters after the R but
not on the stamp. They too would be on the cover.

I'd be happy to upload a scan, however I don't subscribe to a binary
forum if this one even has one as I use Giganews free via Comcast cable
and they have a monthly DL limitation, and binaries eat that up quickly
so I avoid them. If I use my space before the month is up I can't DL
anything, even text msgs until the month comes to a close.

So any ideas on what township? this might be "...MAVER..."?

EGAD! I'd no idea there were so many possibilities!

Got the web page template up as Eric suggested so a scan of the stamp
may be seen at http://home.comcast.net/~jsdeboo/index.html

Grandpa,
I can't tell if the letter is an "M" or an "H" but "Havermill" or
"Haverhill" would fit symmetrically. I believe that the "M" or "H" is the
first letter of the town name. Also the letter after the "R" has the lower
left corner of what could be an "M" or "H". I'm betting that the town name
has 9 letters (one being an "I" for space) or 8. Maverville looks too long
and looking through numerous New England states and some others it was the
only name that I found starting with "Maver..". I can't look through my
covers as everything is packed away for awhile, I'm just looking through
catalogues of cancels.

Thanks TOm, its not a burning issue by any means, I just thought it
might hit a nerve in someones memory, especially since there were
nowhere near as many townships around then as now. Thanks a bundle for
your efforts. Even if I never find the town name, thats ok as I have a
really old stamp of minimal value that is priceless to me. I love old
stuffG. This is what the hobby is all about in my mind.

One of my favorites is an Ireland revenue with Queen Victoria on it.
Very nice stamp. It has a "Dog License" overprint. Cheap stamp, lots
of mileage out of it. :^)
