A lucky find
Friends,
While going thru the local dollar store, I found Bill Bradleys autobiography for a dollar. The cover price was $26.95, and when I opened it.................. A signature was on the inside! I went thru the remaining books, and found 2 more, with signatures. Bill was an All American, Olympic Gold medalist, NBA hall of famer and Senetor. Den I had a similiar experience a few years ago at a bargain book store, it was Vicki Lawrence's book and was signed. I think what might happen is sometimes when stores have book signings they get extras signed and sell them afterwards (at least the one in my town does) and maybe when they send the unsolds to stores like this we find them. Whoknows just a thought. |

I've had this happen twice; once, I think I just bought a remaindered book
(Orson Scott Card's "Xenocide") and didn't even realize it was signed until a couple of years later. Then 2 months ago I was in a used book store and saw a hardback copy of Prozac Nation with its original dust jacket. First edition, and signed with a pretty lengthy inscription by the author (Elizabeth Wurtzel) to the previous owner. I felt okay about that, for $6.95. These places by collections of books; they don't have the time to go through every one to see if there's a signature. |
