Advice needed on mounting and shipping stamps
Hello, recently I posted to this newsgroup a request for advice on the
dispersal of an old stamp collection (US & Worldwide). I have decided to break up the collection into lots divided by country. I am new to stamp collecting, and now need advice on how to properly mount and ship the stamps. There are three albums, with thousands of stamps in each album. Some stamps have been hinged, some of those have fallen loose. And other unhinged stamps have been tossed loose into their respective pages. I have purchased a scanner so that I can properly display the stamps on eBay. The recommendations of the regular readers in this newsgroup are greatly appreciated. Best Regards, Kramer |

Kramer,
Don't bother. Just buy a bunch of glassene envelopes. Throw all the loose stamps in those for shipping. You can arrange them on the bed of your scanner to show your ebay lot, but then carefully place them into a glassine envelope. This way the recipient can decide if they want to keep you pages (not likley at all) and saves them the step of undoing your mounting job. Also I always place some cereal box cardstock in the envelope to keep it from bending (I sandwiche my envelop between 2 pieces of this stuff and tape it in place). I have had no complaints on anything I've sold on ebay this way. Collectors do not usually like creases, tears, stains and other damage to their stamps. There are very few exceptions (expensive stamps that are damaged are usually called space fillers). Don't forget to announce your lots in the marketplace NG, not this discussion NG. This will make everybody here happy. Good luck selling your stamps. Frank "Barry Kramer" wrote in message ... My first stamp purchase for myself was a sheet of 70 nh definitive US
stamps. I received them in good order, packaged in a large glassine envelope enclosed in a large cardboard type white envelope. I removed them one time to examine my purchase. When out of the packaging, they tend to want to curl up a bit. I also have several Japanese commemorative stamps, unused, that were hinged, and are also curling up, these are curling more than just a bit? What causes this? Should I leave them be or do something about it, such as placing them between the pages of a large heavy book? Best Regards, Kramer |
