Default Finish postmark

I have a ship cancellation on a Finish postcard (see scan at
http://www.chez.com/philateliemarine.../sordalava.jpg). It seems
the same as shown on http://www.jiv.dk/finland/pm/index.htm. I would
like to have confirmation and I would like to know the way of the mail
and why the mail between Finland and Karelie was carried by ship.

Other questions on my page
http://www.chez.com/philateliemarine/questions.htm.
Thanks for any answer.
Best regards

This is a cancel from Kristinestad.

Kristinestad (Kristiinankaupunki in Finnish) is a municipality in
Finland. (Population 7,836 in 2003) with the majority being Swedish
speakers. Kristinestad was founded in 1649 on the island Kopp=F6 by the
Swedish Count Per Brahe and chartered in the same year.
The city got its name from Queen Christina.

This idyllic town with low wooden houses and narrow alleys is unlike
any other place in the Nordic Countries. It has often been called the
pearl of the southern part of the Gulf of Bothnia.

The market at Kristinestadt, 1894:

The town covers an area of 687.64 km=B2 (excluding sea) of which 9.37
km=B2 is inland water and has a shoreline of 370 km.

From 1870 to WWI, Finland (then part of Russia) suffered severe

economic problems. Shipbuilding, a major industry of western Finland
was in decline and many people emigrated, particularly to America.

Although a small town, Kristinestadt was a major departure point for
these emigrants. That is because the regional Emigrant office of the
Finska =C5ngfartygsaktiebolaget (Finland Steamship Company) was in
Kristinestad. There they could buy tickets to America, Australia, or
Africa. As a result of the large transient population, the small town
had an unusually large volume of mail.

The wharf of Kristenstad in the 1890s where the emigrant and mail ships
would have docked:

Being on an island and having a large number of ships calling made it
natural for the Kristinestad mails to travel by ship.
