Default Need Help Identifying...

Hi folks,

I've been sorting through stamps for DAYS now... it seems like a long
time (considering I have shoeboxes left to sort through still.)

I need some help with some very obvious identifications, at least it
might seem obvious. I'm unsure, so any help would be appreciated.

1. Stamps that read "Nagaland", are they real? Is this like the stamps
from Staffa, not official? Where is Nagaland.

2. Stamps that read "Briefpost" and above, "Zone Francaise". They look
like the Republic Francaise stamps. Is this when Germany Occupied
France? Anyone know around which years offhand? (I have a Scott catalog
which covers Germany, thankfully... no questions about German
identification. My partner and I are looking through them all trying to
figure out which ones are Third Reich, Empire and Weimar Republic.) But
I think Occupied France would not be with Germany, so we couldn't find
this one in that section.

3. Stamps that read "Valencia", is that Spain, or an occupied
territory? I found one of those while sorting.

4. "Afrique Occidentele Espanola", what's the official name in English?

I'm sure I can think of more, but not right this minute. Any help would
be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sapphyre

A very useful site for stamp identification is
http://www.glassinesurfer.com/stamp_identify/ From that I found:

Briefpost - Germany, Under French occupation. I would guess that this
would probably be around 1945 to 1949, as I am not aware of any other
time when the French may have occupied Germany.

Africa Occidentale Espanola - Spanish West Africa.

There was no mention of Valencia.

For information on the Indian state of Nagaland:

These are cinderellas. Collectible, but not within major catalogs.
Staffa is an island, if not mistaken. Nagaland - eek!

French Occupied Germany. The French Zone - yes, you got it! They can
be found in the back of France in Scott catalogs.

3. Stamps that read "Valencia", is that Spain, or an occupied
territory? I found one of those while sorting.

These are usually charity labels for rebuilding things in Valencia, in
Spain. They are included in the Edifil catalogs for Spain.

4. "Afrique Occidentele Espanola", what's the official name in English?

Spanish West Africa.

Afrique - Africa
Occidentele - West
Orientele - East
Espanola - Spanish / Spain

I'm sure I can think of more, but not right this minute. Any help would
be appreciated.

Zone Française stamps are listed under Germany, Scott 4N1-13.
They were valid from Dec. 1945 to June 1948.

From my July 18, 2003 post:

The Plan sur de Valencia stamps were postal tax stamps required on
all mail in the Valencia region from 1963 to 1985. The revenue was
used for flood control projects.

Hi,

I checked this out just now... It's AWESOME! I found all kinds of
overprints and other oddities. The list I could have asked about would
have been endless if I remembered everything yesterday, but now I can
look up a few words on a stamp and figure out what it is.

Thanks SO MUCH for posting this!
