Default CNBC Poll: Scrap the Greenback?

A taxpayer watchdog group is pushing the Treasury to aggressively
increase circulation of $1 coins. As the US grapples with its $1.4
trillion deficit, Citizens Against Government Waste says the move to a
coin dollar could save about half a billion dollars annually.

Ahhh, the "Secret Plan" is back. They've blown the dust off the Plan
and it may move forward. Or maybe, it's been slowly moving forward all
along?

What they need is a catchy song for the dollar coin. Definitely
something catchier than this one:

What "they" (Congress Critters) need to do is take the politics out of
our monetary system and, like Nike says, just do it. Sadly, even
though Ted Kennedy is gone, John Kerry is still around, and I doubt
Crane paper would give it up that easily.

Introduce a new series of half pennies, each variety commemorating a
state of the union?

The Onion had the idea already, or something close to it: pennies
commemorating each of the 3,000-whatever counties:

A 629 year commemorative penny program! I think the mint should go
for it. Folks would just hoard the pennies away in their sock
drawers, effectively removing the one cent coin from circulation.
