Mail Holiday?
According to the morning newspaper some post offices are open today, some not and some are with shortened hours of operation. A person must call to find out if their post office is operating or not. The rule is: If the holiday falls on Sunday it is observed Monday and if it falls on Saturday is is observed on Friday. Does any other nation operate like this to their National Holidays? Ralphael, the OLD one The 'rule' you cite is only of recent advent when we (the U.S.) shifted most federal holidays to being observed on a Monday closest to the actual date. My local post office is open for 2 hours - 10AM to Noon - and this has been posted on their doors for more than a week. I am not sure what leeway a postal station manager has in deciding whether to open or not, but since the USPS is a government corporation it is not obligated to follow, in toto, all the federal rules. |

Ralphael, the OLD one Hello Ralph, In France, we do not operate like that. A holiday is a holiday : too bad if it falls on Sunday ;-) [But we have soooo many holidays here !] Please note that this does not apply to Saturdays : here most Post Offices are opened on Saturday mornings. -- All the best Pierre Courtiade courtiade at free dot fr |

Ralphael, the OLD one In the UK most 'bank holidays' as we call them fall on a Monday. Good Friday is always Friday 8-) Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year can fall at the weekend, in which case the Monday (plus Tuesday if Christmas is on Saturday) is used. -- Tony Clayton Coins of the UK : http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk Sent using RISCOS on an Acorn Strong Arm RiscPC ....
